Package Rerouting

Package Rerouting Fraud MO
What Is It and How Can Merchants Avoid It?

What is the package rerouting fraud MO?

Fraudsters often provide a legitimate shipping address when placing the order, then try to change the delivery address while the parcel is on its way. It is becoming more common for fraudsters to take advantage of services such as UPS MyChoice, which enable customers to reroute packages using the tracking number – without the merchant’s knowledge.

Why does Riskified’s chargeback guarantee exclude package rerouting?

Our approval is based, among other data points, on the shipping address provided at the time of order review. For this reason, we do not guarantee chargebacks obtained as a result of package rerouting.

How can I avoid incurring chargebacks for packages rerouted by fraudsters?

Following are 3 steps you can take to stay protected from fraud-related chargebacks:

We strongly recommend contacting your shipping company to disable package rerouting. As some shipping companies do not include the possibility to make this change online, it may be best to contact your account manager directly.

Please make sure your shipping company provides you with a ‘Proof Of Delivery’ document and does not deliver packages to anywhere but the original shipping address. We ask for this document as part of the chargeback reimbursement process.

If a customer asks you to change the shipping address after our approval but before the item has shipped – please resubmit the order, and we will review it again free of charge. If you do not notify us of the shipping address change, the order will not be covered by our guarantee in case of a chargeback.
