April 27, 2026Riskified Study Finds Consumers Aren’t Ready to Hand Over Control as AI Transforms Shopping, with Over Half Afraid of Online Fraud
AI-powered fraud prevention combined with payment optimization helps merchants maximize legitimate approvals, prevent fraud, and reduce unnecessary authentication
Tokyo, Japan – May 14, 2026 – Riskified (NYSE: RSKD), a global leader in ecommerce fraud and risk intelligence, has partnered with YTGATE, a payments optimization and consulting provider, to help ecommerce merchants in Japan increase approval rates and recover revenue lost during the online payment process.
YTGATE enables merchants to improve payment performance through its YTGuard platform, which provides visibility into authorization rates and 3D Secure (3DS) usage across the payment flow. These insights help merchants identify where legitimate transactions are declined by issuers or unnecessarily routed through authentication.
YTGATE also provides payment consulting services, working directly with issuers on behalf of merchants to improve authorization performance. However, even as authorization rates improve, many merchants continue to lose legitimate transactions due to broad or inefficient use of 3DS.
As ecommerce fraud grows more sophisticated, merchants face increasing pressure to maintain high approval rates while managing risk. While authentication tools such as 3DS add an additional layer of protection, applying them too broadly can result in lost legitimate transactions and reduced payment success.
Through this partnership, merchants can leverage Riskified’s AI-powered risk intelligence platform to approve more legitimate orders while maintaining strong fraud protection. By identifying which transactions can be approved without additional verification, merchants can reduce unnecessary 3DS usage on transactions that don’t require additional authentication and increase the share of transactions that flow through seamless authentication, including 3DS “Pattern 1. (Read how Lacoste Japan partnered with Riskified to qualify for Pattern 1 and increase approval rates.)
Riskified’s machine learning models analyze transaction data across its global merchant network to distinguish between legitimate customers and fraudulent activity in real time. By reducing false declines and optimizing authentication strategies, merchants can increase revenue opportunities while maintaining strong protection against evolving fraud threats.
“Merchants are looking for ways to improve approval rates without increasing risk,” said Aviram Ganor, General Manager, APAC at Riskified. “By partnering with YTGATE, we’re able to help merchants approve more legitimate customers by reducing unnecessary 3DS and improving how authentication is applied.”
Yutaro Takahash, CEO of YTGATE said, “Improving approval rates for ecommerce merchants requires not only working with issuers, but also applying 3DS precisely to the transactions that truly need it. Through our partnership with Riskified, we can deliver more precise payment optimization to a broader range of merchants in Japan, helping them maximize revenue.”
Together, Riskified and YTGATE aim to help ecommerce merchants improve payment success, reduce lost transactions, and deliver a more effective checkout experience for legitimate customers.
