AI-driven fraud protection helps merchants maximize order approvals while delivering seamless checkout experiences
Tokyo, Japan – Feb 27, 2026 –Riskified (NYSE: RSKD), a global leader in ecommerce fraud detection and risk intelligence, has partnered with Paygent Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-based payment service provider backed by NTT Data and Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS, to provide Riskified’s advanced AI-powered fraud prevention services to ecommerce merchants using Paygent’s platform. Paygent enables merchants to accept a wide range of payment methods while ensuring secure and reliable transaction processing.
Through this collaboration, merchants can stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated fraud while ensuring legitimate customers complete their purchases without unnecessary friction. By combining precise risk intelligence with optimized authentication flows, merchants can protect revenue and strengthen customer loyalty.
The expansion of cashless payments in Japan has also led to a rise in credit card fraud and sophistication of tactics. Fraudsters are increasingly using generative AI and AI agents to automate attacks like bulk card testing, purchases for resale, and account takeovers, making traditional rule-based defenses less effective. At the same time, mandatory implementation of EMV 3D Secure (3DS) provides an additional layer of protection, but introduces extra steps during checkout that can lead to cart abandonment by legitimate users. Merchants face the challenge of balancing strong security with a seamless customer experience.
Through this partnership, Paygent’s ecommerce merchants can leverage Riskified’s AI platform to simultaneously prevent fraud and maximize approvals. Riskified’s proprietary machine learning models scan transaction data across its global merchant network to instantly distinguish between legitimate users and fraudulent bots or impostors, adapting to sophisticated attack patterns while minimizing false declines. The platform also optimizes 3DS routing to reduce cart abandonment, precisely identifying high risk transactions for additional authentication. By preventing unnecessary blocking of legitimate customers and automating manual review processes, merchants can increase revenue opportunities and reduce operational workload.
“One of the largest ecommerce markets in the world, Japan is attracting more online shoppers but also savvy fraudsters who want to take advantage of this growth. With fraud evolving faster than most merchants can keep up with, Riskified and Paygent have partnered to give Japanese brands the most advanced technology and strategies to increase order approvals and secure every payment type,” said Aviram Ganor, General Manager, APAC at Riskified.
This partnership reflects Riskified’s continued expansion in the Japanese ecommerce market. Riskified has been adopted by several leading domestic merchants and international brands selling in Japan, includingand ST Co., Ltd. (Adastria), Lacoste Japan, United Arrows, AKOMEYA TOKYO.
Together, Paygent and Riskified aim to help Japanese ecommerce merchants transform fraud prevention from an unpredictable cost into a profitable investment that delivers the best possible experience to legitimate shoppers. By leveraging the most advanced risk intelligence at checkout, the companies contribute to the healthy development of Japan’s cashless society and offer secure and seamless payment solutions benefitting merchants and customers alike.
