Riskified is Supporting an Industry-Wide Effort to Help Travelers Avoid World Cup Travel Fraud

Raising awareness of travel fraud across the global aviation ecosystem

As millions of fans travel during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fraud targeting airline ticket purchases continues to rise across digital channels, including fake booking websites, impersonation of legitimate airlines, and deceptive offers distributed through social media and messaging apps.

Riskified is supporting an industry effort led by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to raise awareness of these risks and help educate travelers on how to identify and avoid fraud during periods of peak international travel demand.

The campaign, #TogetherAgainstCyberfraud, brings together airlines, industry associations, and ecosystem partners across Latin America to emphasize the importance of booking travel only through official and verified channels. Major global sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup have historically created conditions that fraudsters exploit, including urgency, limited availability, and high consumer intent.

Fraud in the travel sector has consistently increased during major international tournaments. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, cybersecurity researchers reported hundreds of millions of attempts to access fraudulent travel-related websites, illustrating the scale and sophistication of fraud activity targeting travelers during global events.

As travel demand increases across Latin America and globally during the tournament period, industry stakeholders continue to emphasize the importance of traveler awareness and cross-sector collaboration to address evolving fraud tactics.

Travelers are encouraged to purchase airline tickets only through official airline websites, verified applications, or regulated travel agencies, and to remain cautious of unusually low-priced offers or requests for direct payments through unverified channels.
